The William Cooper March, will be held at the Shrine of Remembrance, Birdwood Avenue, Melbourne on Monday 28 October 2024 12pm to 1pm with light refreshments provided after the event
Presented by the Shrine of Remembrance, this concert will shine a light on the story of Yorta Yorta man William Cooper and the Australian Aborigines’ League petition against Kristallnacht – The Night of Broken Glass. 80 years on from the World War II Holocaust.
Featuring a new composition by one of Australia’s leading yidaki players and composers, William Barton, and also a new work by renowned composer and pianist, Elena Kats-Chernin AO, this performance will give audiences an insight into an important chapter of Australia’s First Nation’s history.
The performance will also feature music by Chris Sainsbury ‘The Arrival’ and the 1st and 4th movement from Erwin Schulhoff’s ‘7th Symphony’, an Austro-Czech composer and pianist who was killed during the Holocaust.
