NORTH SYDNEY-Phoenix Baroque Concert

PHOENIX BAROQUE - Concert 2

“The instruments and program were interesting, but the Phoenix Collective’s playing brought them to life. They were thoroughly attuned to each other, with constant eye contact ensuring precise timing and shared support. In true Baroque style, there was very little vibrato, which not only resulted in clean and clear notes, but it also tested instrument tunings and saw players hitting the right pitch. They passed with flying colours.”

- Clinton White, City News.

Phoenix Collective’s Baroque concerts are diverse and unique. Works by master composers such as J.S Bach and Vivaldi but also featuring fascinatingly ‘out-there and unknown’ composers like Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber and Giovanni Antonio Pandolfi. Experience Biber’s use of scordatura, the technique of altering the normal tuning of a stringed instrument to produce unusual effects and colours. Played on circa.1750 Tyrolean violin tuned A415 with gut strings and baroque bow. Phoenix Collective also has access to a stunning replica 1710 French double manual harpsichord by Australian master instrument builder, Carey Beebe.
